What to record first

Identify the source, then preserve the relevant content and surrounding context.

Start with the source

A clear record shows who or what appears to be the source, where the material was found and the path to the relevant content. Keep the context and the main content in a coherent sequence.

WhatsApp Web

  • Open the visible contact or group information.
  • Record the displayed name, profile image, number and other relevant identifiers when available.
  • Return to the conversation and show the sequence leading to the messages.
  • Include relevant dates, times and preceding or following messages.

Instagram Web

  • Open the profile before the post or conversation.
  • Record the visible username, displayed name, profile image, biography and URL.
  • Open the available post, story, comment or conversation you need to preserve.
  • Include the relevant caption, apparent date, comments or conversation sequence.

Websites

  • Start from the complete original URL.
  • Confirm that the address matches the page you intend to record.
  • Show the page and general context before focusing on a particular section.
  • Preserve the navigation sequence if the information spans more than one page.

Site Lite

Even a short screenshot session should identify the page and the material. Take the necessary screenshots in a clear order. Add surrounding context if a single screen would leave the meaning unclear. Site Lite does not record video or audio.

Three questions to check

Can a reviewer identify the source? Can they understand the relevant sequence and circumstances? Can they relate the preserved files to the delivered report?

Collect only material relevant to the purpose and accessible to you with authorization.
